Culiseta fumipennis, Culiseta litorea and Culiseta morsitans are very similar species. On Culiseta morsitans tarsomere 4 of the hindleg is entirely dark, while other 2 species have a basal pale ring. Culiseta fumipennis has scattered pale scales on the palpi while other 2 species have only some pale scales on the apex.
